GL Assessment (44 schools)

Standardised, mostly multiple-choice papers covering Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

CSSE (Essex) (14 schools)

English and Maths only — no separate reasoning papers — with a creative-writing element. Used by the Essex grammar schools.

ISEB Common Pre-Test (2 schools)

An online, adaptive pre-test (English, Maths, Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning) used by many independent senior schools, usually in Year 6 or 7.

The school's own test (22 schools)

A bespoke entrance exam set by the school itself — the format is decided by the school, not a national board.
